It was based upon the features of an assembly hall, temple, and a private house. The structure of it was similar to the Greek temple, except it was positioned to greet the morning sun.

The origins of early byznatine/christian architecture was mainly an assembly, along with other charactersitics of past civillizations, mainly the greek/roman. The influence behind it was ofcourse from the romans, who had in turn been influenced by the greeks. It, as stated prior, remained as such untill it was officially recognized as christian architecture.
