Stonehenge was constructed for ceremonial purposes, using large rocks gathered from a mountain range nearly 240 miles from where they stand now. Each stone weighed approx. 25 tons, and were floated on rafts downstream for the majority of their journey. It is believed that Stonehenge is part ritual structure, and part observatory. It has the capacity to determine the dates of equinoxes and solstices; as well as being a ritualistic site to celebrate solar and lunar bodies.
From the movie in class, we could imagine that Stonehenge was constructed for its sound purposes. Were there other reason that the stones were placed that area of the land? Were there any alignment with the stars like many other man-made structures?
The stonehenge was constructed for only one purpose and that was to be used for ceremonial usage. They would have ceremonies of church or sprital guidness. Some times they would have sicrafices of animals or humans for there god. The large stones were used to trap sound in and make the voice that needed to heard.
